| University Centers & Institutes Task Force-A recent audit revealed that centers & institutes are generally operating in accordance with purposes approved by the TAMUS Board of Regents. However, the report did not recommend improvements in the areas of oversight rules and procedures pertaining to the creation, management and dissolution of centers. To address the audit issues and review how the centers and institutes activities can be more effective, the establishment of a task force on the creation, management and dissolution of centers and institutes has been established. |

| Task Force on Enlightened and Shared Governance-The Task Force will be charged with clarifying and reaching consensus on the definition of enlightened and shared governance. In addition to drawing upon key elements of Vision 2020, the group will review accepted definitions of enlightened and shared governance at other institutions, including American Association of University Professor (AAUP) members. The Task Force will share this information with the campus and outside groups and ask for additional ideas and feedback. Also, it will conduct a thorough assessment of the status of enlightened and shared governance at our University. Subgroups will be formed to focus on the issues that are important to students, departments, deans, and University administration. The subgroups will investigate and expand topics, such as best practices, and report what they’ve concluded to the Task Force. |

| University Research Council (URC)-The University Research Council (URC) provides advice and assistance to the Vice President for Research on development, research planning, and policy. The URC shall be chaired by the Vice President for Research. Members include the associate deans for research for each college, the Dean of Bush School, the Dean of Graduate Studies, the Associate Dean for Research at Galveston, other individuals appointed by the Vice President for Research, representing the Library, the Faculty Senate Research Committee, the Council of Principal Investigators, and faculty members from each college who have broad experience in research or research management. |

| Laboratory Safety Committee for Texas A&M (minutes)-This committee will be charged with oversight of lab safety for research and teaching labs. They will help craft lab safety policy, a laboratory safety manual, lab safety agreements (particularly for undergraduate students), and pursue other lab safety issues, as warranted. EHSD will be providing technical and administrative support for the committee. |

| Research Environment Council-To advise the President and the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academics on all aspects of research in support of Vision 2020 goals. The Council will advise on items including but not limited to the following: Plans and actions for new opportunities for success in external funding, especially from federal and industrial sources; Plans for expansion of technology transfer and venture capital investments that will enhance research development at Texas A&M University, and in the local community; Communication of the importance and impact of Texas A&M University's research to diverse constituencies; Plans for close collaboration between agencies, the University, and the Research Foundation; Plans for research that recognize and incorporate the recommendations from the new councils on finance, education and the built environment. |
